Hi! My name is Gina Fox. This is my first semester at Fairmont State. I graduated from Frostburg State University's MAT Program in May 2012.
I postponed my teaching career for a year when I found out my recently adopted daughter (Alicia, now 5) had a pending sibling on the way. Since my son (Jackson, now 2) had a rough start the first year, it turned out to be a very wise decision.
I began looking for a teaching position in the fall of 2013. In October, I was hired as a Reading Specialist long term substitute for the remainder of the school year at Augusta Elementary (Hampshire County). I worked exclusively with K-2. I loved every minute of it and was hooked!
I am currently working as a Reading Specialist at Fountain Primary School in Mineral County. The only thing I don't like about this position is that it is only part-time.
I am taking this course to obtain a Reading Specialist Certification and to also strengthen my knowledge and skills as a reading teacher.
There are many books that I loved when I was young, one that I vividly remember reading was Where the Red Fern Grows. As an animal lover, I was always drawn to books revolving around animals and their bonding with people. This book deepened my interest in historical nonfiction, particularly stories about my peers in different times and cultures.

Hi Gina! How exciting that you adopted not only one, but two children! Congratulations, I am sure they are lucky to have you as a mommy. :) I postponed my teaching career also, but mine has been on hold for eight years so that I can be a stay at home mommy to my two daughters. I also want to be a Reading Specialist and help students discover a love of reading. Good luck this semester! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Gina, It's awesome that you teach at Fountain! I'm at Keyser High. It's good that you have an interest in the historical aspect; that's something to bring out in your students. I've always felt that the best way to learn history is to read accounts of literature that highlight it!
